Micro needling of the skin (what’s done with a derma roller) is based on ancient acupuncture techniques. Another name for this is Collagen Induction Therapy or CIT. CIT essentially encourages the skin to produce collagen and elastin both of which are necessary for firm, healthy skin. Collagen and elastin levels are increased following each derma roller treatment. By rolling over the skin, derma rollers create tiny openings in the top layer of the skin, the epidermis. This causes a healing process to begin and stimulates collagen production. This continues for hours after each derma roller treatment session.
